How Serious Is Messi’s Injury?

Lionel Messi is down with an injury – again! A calf injury already made Messi miss the first four matches of the season for Barca, but this time the issue seems to be the left thigh.

To remind you, Messi was substituted at the half in a match against Villarreal on Tuesday, which Barcelona won 2–1. This was the Argentine’s first La Liga start of the season after he made his debut against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League a week before.

Messi already claimed that he was feeling a bit fatigued after the previous injury and that he doesn’t seem to be at his best: “I have been out of action for two months, and I notice this. I feel fatigued and heavy, lacking rhythm,” he said after the match against Dortmund.

A new injury created more problems for Barca, who are off to their worst start of the season in decades.

The club issued an update claiming that their best player is assessed daily and that they expect him to return against Inter in a Champions League clash on Wednesday.

This report puts some confidence in Barcelona’s fans, who didn’t have much of a reason to celebrate since the beginning of the new season. Barca is sixth in La Liga after six rounds of play, while their draw against Borussia puts additional pressure on the team to win against Inter.

Even if Messi does return for the Champions League second round, the question is whether he will be fit enough to play his best, and there’s also a risk of him renewing one of his injuries.
