Juventus Beats Inter and Retakes Serie A Standings

It was a match everybody was waiting for – the duel between the only two undefeated teams in Serie A, and one of the games that could quite possibly decide the title race.

Juventus came flying out of the gates and converted on their first opportunity of the match. Miralem Pjanić sent a great pass forward to running Dybala, who put a powerful left-foot shot right past the goalkeeper.

Just five minutes later, Cristiano Ronaldo drove into the penalty area and put a ferocious shot towards Inter’s goal, but Handanović was saved by the crossbar.

In the 17th minute, the referee saw a handball from Matthijs de Ligt of Juventus and confirmed his decision after consulting with VAR. The penalty was taken by Lautaro Martinez, and Inter equalized after only 18 minutes of play.

Just before halftime, Cristiano Ronaldo managed to score a goal, but after consulting VAR, the referee saw that Dybala was offside, and the result was still 1–1.

However, Juventus kept putting pressure on Inter’s defense, until it finally paid off in the 80th minute. Rodrigo Bentancur assisted Gonzalo Higuaín, who was too close to miss. Juventus took a 2–1 lead and managed to save their own goal until the final whistle.

After seven games, Juventus is now at the top of Serie A standings with 19 points, while Inter remains on 18 points. Atalanta is third with 16.
