Juventus Gets Back at the Top of Serie A with a Win over Brescia

The 8-time defending Serie A champions, Juventus, took over the top of the standing after a win in Brescia on Tuesday. However, if Inter wins against Lazio today, Juve will end up second on the table after five rounds of play.

The match didn’t start well for the champs who couldn’t count on their best player Cristiano Ronaldo due to a groin injury. Namely, Brescia scored a goal four minutes into the game after Donnarumma’s strike was too strong for Szczesny.

Juventus kept putting pressure on the home team’s defence throughout the first half, and it finally paid off in the 40th minute when Chancellor scored an own goal after a Juventus’ corner kick.

The second half was relatively one-sided, and it was only a matter of time when Juventus would score a leading goal. It happened in the 63rd minute when Miralem Pjanić torpedoed an indefensible volley into the bottom left corner of Brescia’s goal.

The home side had a few chances here and there, but nothing that would put Szczesny in immediate danger. Juventus held on to the lead and recorded their fourth victory of the season. For Brescia, it was the third loss in their last four games, still not being able to win a point at home.

Juventus will play SPAL over the weekend, while Brescia expects another tough encounter, this time against Napoli on the road.
