Real Madrid Cruises Past Osasuna to Remain at the Top of La Liga

Real expectedly won against Osasuna on Tuesday night 2–0, but the victory itself was overshadowed by the performance of their teenage duo Junior Vinicius and Rodrygo. The Brazilian youngsters scored two goals and helped their team remain at the top of La Liga standings, with one point above city rivals Atletico.

Real was clearly the more dominant team on the pitch even from early on, which is suggested by the stat that they had a bigger ball possession (54%–46%) as well as having more shots towards the target (15–4).

In the 36th minute, Junior Vinicius received a pass from Toni Kross and fired an indefensible shot from around 20 meters away from the goal to give the home team a 1–0 lead.

Real kept attacking in the second half but couldn’t extend their lead in the first 25 minutes. Jović even scored a goal that was waived off due to offside. Zidane then decided to substitute Vinicius for another Brazilian teenager Rodrygo, which paid off almost instantly.

Rodrygo received a long ball from Casemiro on the left side, dribbled his way into the penalty area, and put the ball near the far post for 2–0 in the 72nd minute. Not much action was seen until the end of the game.

Real recorded the fourth victory in six La Liga games this season, which puts them back at the top of the table with 14 points. This was Osasuna’s first loss of the season, but they drew four times in their previous five games, so their 7 points are only good enough for the 12th place in the standings.

Osasuna plays Levante on Sunday, while Real Madrid expects a derby match with Atletico on Saturday.
